If you’re in the reader circles on social media, you’ve probably heard different book boyfriends described as different breeds of dogs, but not everyone is very familiar with dog breeds, so sometimes these descriptions don’t always tell us much. No more though, I put together a handy compilation of some different dog breeds and the type of men that they represent so that you never have to wonder again!
Golden Retriever

Golden Retriever men are one of the most commonly referenced types when comparing men to dogs. These guys are loyal, friendly, and always looking for ways to make their partner happy! They are always excited to do whatever you want, whether that’s a grand adventure or cuddling on the couch.
He might make you roll your eyes with his metaphorical tail wagging, but he’s got a heart of gold and it shows.

German Shepherd
These guys are protective and smart but can be intense. He takes his responsibilities VERY seriously – Whether it’s work, family, or making sure you get home safely after a date. He can come across as a little overbearing, but he means well.
French Bulldog

This one’s a laid-back kind of guy with a quirky sense of humor and a habit of making weird faces or saying random things to make you laugh unexpectedly. He’s sociable, but only when he wants to be. When he’s in the mood to socialize, he’s magnetic. If he’s not feeling it, he’s perfectly happy to just sit in a corner, vibing, sipping at his drink, watching everyone around him.
Husky

This guy is fiercely independent, loud, and full of energy. He loves a good adventure, but hates following directions. He’s going to forge his own path instead. He can be protective when needed, but usually, he just wants to have fun. Chaos & laughter are what you can expect with this guy.
Labrador Retriever

He’s the kind of guy who is always happy, always friendly, and somehow makes everyone feel special. He’s an all-around nice guy. Loyal and fun-loving. He’s outgoing and very social. He will also eat literally anything and probably brags about his stomach of steel.
Doberman

Sleek and mysterious, this guy looks tough and intimidating but is actually a big softie once he lets you in. He’s very reserved when it comes to his emotions, but when he loves you, he loves you intensely. He’s one of the most loyal guys around, but his wardrobe probably cost as much as your car.
Pit Bull

Fiercely loyal and largely misunderstood. He’s got a bad reputation, but those who give him a chance know that he’s got a tough exterior due to life, but a huge heart underneath. He will growl & defend you to the end, but he’s all talk. He’s more interested in play wrestling and belly rubs than anything else.
Border Collie

This guy is super smart, and hyper-focused. He’s always working on some new project. He probably runs on caffeine and has a five-year-plan. Chances are, he’s going to need you to remind him to relax or he never will.
